Privacy policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data LearnYourSubject (learnyoursubject.com) collects, why, who helps us process it, and your rights. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for people in the EU, the GDPR.
Who is responsible
Leo Zemp, Switzerland (full address in the legal notice). Contact: support@learnyoursubject.com.
What we collect
- Account: your first name, email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Study data: your subjects, level, exam session, study plan, lessons watched, practice results and settings, so your progress is kept across devices.
- Practice you send us: writing you submit for checking, and your voice while you talk with the speaking tutor. Speech and writing are processed to answer and correct you. We do not keep recordings of your voice.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We see your plan, its status and the type of card (for example "Visa ending 4242"), never the full card number.
- Launch list: if you ask us to tell you when the site opens, your email address, used only for that one email and then deleted.
- Messages and reports: what you write when you contact us or report a problem, so we can answer and fix it.
- Device code: a random code your browser keeps, so your account works on one device at a time. We count how many devices an account uses each day to stop one account being shared by many people.
- Technical data: IP address and basic request logs, used to keep the site working and safe and to stop misuse. They are deleted after 30 days.
Why we use it
- To provide the courses and your account (the contract with you).
- To take payments and keep the records the law requires (legal duty).
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse, for example daily limits on AI features (legitimate interest).
- To send emails you need: confirming your account, resetting your password, receipts and a reminder before a yearly plan renews. We send no marketing emails unless you ask for them.
We do not sell your data and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who helps us
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Online | Server that runs the website and videos | Germany |
| Supabase | Sign-in and the database with your account and progress | EU |
| Stripe | Payments | EU and USA |
| Resend | Account emails | EU and USA |
| Google (Gemini) | The speaking tutor, checking writing and making practice | USA |
| OpenAI | Short checks, notes and translations | USA |
| AssemblyAI | Showing your words as you speak | USA |
| Sign in with Google, if you choose it | USA |
Where data goes to the USA, it is protected by the Swiss-US and EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by standard contractual clauses. The AI services process what you send to answer you and, under our agreements with them, do not use it to train their models.
Cookies and storage
We only use what the site needs to work: a cookie and browser storage that keep you signed in and remember your progress on this device, and a cookie that remembers the language you chose. We count visits to our pages without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you: how many people, which pages, which country (worked out from the internet address at the moment of the visit), the site, link or ad they came from, whether that visit led to an account, a waitlist sign-up or a plan the same day, and the type of device and browser. Only totals per day are kept; your internet address is not stored, and the short code used to tell visitors apart is deleted every night. No advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account (Account, Delete my account), your account and progress are deleted straight away. Payment records are kept for 10 years because Swiss law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, and object to how we use it. Write to support@learnyoursubject.com. You can also complain to the Swiss data protection authority (FDPIC) or, in the EU, to the authority in your country.
Children
LearnYourSubject is for students preparing for IGCSE and A Level exams. If you are under 16 and live in the EU, ask a parent before making an account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top and tell account holders by email about important changes.
